Highlights

  • Listen to the GPS-enabled audio guide in 5 different languages
  • Visit the Grand Mosque, fish market, and folkloric Muttrah Souk
  • Gain entry to Bait al Zubair Museum and make a photo stop at Al Alam Palace
  • Marvel at the breathtaking panoramas from the sunset dhow cruise

Description

Start the tour with pickup from your hotel and transfer to Shatti Al-Qurum (next to the Intercontinental Hotel) where the city tour departs. Venture through the beautiful city and discover a rare blend of ancient and modern architecture surrounded by mountains and the Arabian Sea.  First, drive through the ministries' area, where you can see a number of modern buildings with touches of ancient Islamic architecture. Make your first stop at the Grand Mosque - an architectural marvel and perhaps the new landmark of the city. Then, visit the fish market and the folkloric Muttrah Souk, with its narrow covered alleys. Smell the exotic aromas of spices, coffee beans, and ancient remedies. Next, visit the Bait Al Zubair Museum, which has a fine exhibit of Omani history and culture, encompassing all of the area's traditional values. Make a photo-stop at the magnificent Al Alam Palace (the official residence of Sultan Qaboos) flanked by the twin Portuguese forts of Mirani and Jalali. End the tour at the Mutrah Souq then proceed for lunch at a local restaurant. Later, get picked up from the restaurant and transfer to a breathtaking sunset cruise on a traditional dhow boat. During this short trip, enjoy the beautiful panoramic views of the coast of Muscat all along the charming promenade. Have ample opportunities to photograph and film some of the city's finest landmarks, going past the port, Al Bustan Palace Hotel, and the Al Aalam Palace with its impressive twin Portuguese forts. After gaining a different perspective on this beautiful city through the waterways, get dropped off back at your hotel.
