08:30: Meet up with your guide and begin the city tour of Muscat. The tour begins with a visit to the impressive Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, one of the largest mosques in the Middle East. Special features of this monumental sandstone mosque, which can accommodate more than 7,000 worshippers at a time, include the prayer rug in the main hall, which is considered the second largest handmade single rug in the world.
Next, you will travel to the Bait Al Zubair Museum, which offers a fascinating insight into Omani culture and history. The museum houses an extensive collection of traditional weapons, including khanjars (Omani daggers), household items, jewelry and traditional clothing.
Afterwards, the drive takes you along the picturesque Corniche from Mutrah to the old town of Muscat. Here, you will make photo stops at the Al-Alam Palace, the official residence of His Majesty the Sultan. The palace is flanked by the 16th-century Portuguese forts of Mirani and Jalali.
Before returning, you will have time to stroll through the famous Mutrah Souq – a traditional Middle Eastern market with spices, textiles, antiques, souvenirs, and much more.
Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque
Dress code: Appropriate clothing is required to visit the mosque. Ladies must wear long-sleeved outerwear and cover their hair with a scarf. Men are permitted to wear short-sleeved shirts. Both men and women must wear long trousers; shorts are not permitted.
