Empty Quarter Desert (Rub Al Khali Desert) The Lost City of Ubar Stay Overnight in Desert Wadi Dawka, The Frankincense Wadi
Overnight Desert Tour in Rub Al Khali with Visit to Wadi Dawka and Ubar
This 1 night, 1 day tour in Oman's Rub Al Khali desert suits travelers interested in archaeology, desert landscapes, and cultural experiences.
Description
At 12:30 pm, you will be picked up from your hotel and driven to Wadi Dawka, a UNESCO World Heritage site home to the largest natural collection of frankincense trees. Learn about the history and modern uses of frankincense during your visit.
The tour continues to the Lost City of Ubar, another UNESCO site in the Dhofar region. Discovered by archaeologists using remote sensing in 1992, Ubar was inhabited from approximately 2800 B.C. to 300 A.D. It was a key trading center for frankincense before being buried by shifting dunes. A small museum at the site displays archaeological finds.
The vast and arid Rub Al Khali desert, also known as the Empty Quarter, stretches from mountain foothills to large sandy plains. This area is renowned for its archaeological sites and desert environment.
Experience thrilling driving on the fine sands of the Arabian Desert as you approach the campsite. Enjoy sunset views over the dunes before arriving at camp, where Arabian coffee and traditional dates are served. Dinner and Shisha (Arabic water pipe) follow, with breakfast served the next morning.
The camp features simple tents with solid beds, bed linen, running water, electricity, and shared toilet and bathroom facilities.
