Description
The tour begins with a morning pickup from your hotel in Muscat. You will drive through the Hajar Mountains, passing traditional villages and date palm plantations before arriving in Nizwa, a culturally rich former capital of Oman.
Your first stop is Nizwa Souq, where you can explore market stalls selling silver jewelry, pottery, spices, dates, and the traditional Omani dagger, the khanjar. The souq offers an authentic experience of Omani trade and craft traditions still alive today.
Next, visit the 17th-century Nizwa Fort, built by Imam Sultan bin Saif Al Ya’rubi. The fort’s large circular tower provides panoramic views of the city and nearby palm oases. Inside, you can explore historic defense features, hidden passages, weapon displays, and exhibits showcasing Omani heritage.
Enjoy a traditional Omani lunch at a local restaurant, featuring dishes such as shuwa (slow-cooked lamb), chicken biryani, saffron rice, and Omani halwa, accompanied by Arabic coffee or mint tea.
