Description

This morning tour begins with a drive to Nizwa, the former capital of Oman under the Al Yaruba Dynasty. At Nizwa Souq, you will find a variety of vendors selling vegetables, pottery, jewelry, handicrafts, Omani halwa sweets, spices, and souvenirs in authentic old market halls. The Friday cattle market is especially lively, with locals selling goats, cattle, sheep, and chickens in an open marketplace setting.

Next to the souq is the Nizwa Fort and Castle. The fort was built in 1649 and the castle dates back to 888. Now a museum, the fort offers extensive views of the town and surrounding mountains. It features many passages and rooms, and served as a military stronghold designed to resist strong attacks during the Yaruba dynasty. Various traps were built along corridors to deter intruders.

From Nizwa, the tour continues to Misfat Al Abreyeen, a village located on a steep slope at the foot of Jabal Shams. The village has old homes, narrow streets, and a falaj irrigation system supporting orchards, date palms, and vegetables. Visitors can enjoy walking through the village before proceeding to the ancient town of Al Hamra.

The final stop is Jabal Shams, the highest mountain in Oman at 3009 meters, often called the Grand Canyon of Oman. The mountain road offers an off-road experience and excellent views. The tour stops at the canyon viewpoint at 2000 meters for visitors to take in the scenery.
