Description
Begin by visiting the desert town of Fanya, known for its ancient mud buildings set against a mountainous backdrop. Continue to Old Town Mudhairib, where you can photograph historic ruins.
In Ibra, stroll the local market and enjoy a midday meal before exploring its ancient village. Spend the night in a desert camp after an adventurous 4x4 sand dune drive, taking in the sunset and dinner by the campfire.
On day two, visit Wadi Bani Khalid, one of Oman's largest wadis. Swim, relax, or picnic in its scenic canyon pools. Tour Sur’s sights, including a famous castle, then visit the Ras Al Jinz Turtle Sanctuary to observe nesting sea turtles or hatchlings. Overnight accommodations are provided at Ras Al Hadd.
Day three includes a photo stop at the Tomb of Bibi Mariam in Qalhat, a site once visited by Marco Polo. Proceed to Wadi Shab for hiking and swimming in crystal-clear pools and a turquoise waterfall. On the return to Muscat, stop at the Bamah Sinkhole, a geological formation thought to be caused by a meteor.
