Airport Information

Muscat international Airport is at present the only gateway to Oman by air and is situated 25km from the Central Business District of Ruwi (CBD) and around 20km or 15/20 minutes from the chief residential areas of Al Khuwair, Madinat As Sultan Qaboos and Qurum.  The airport is situated close to the highway with easy access to airport taxis, with a set fare per km so no haggling required for weary travellers.

The national carrier is Oman Air along with Gulf Air, Emirates, Etihad, Indian Airlines, Air India, British Airways, Swiss Air, Lufthansa, KLM to name a few, flying to 55 destinations in 26 countries. Two domestic destinations, Salalah and Khasab are also served by Oman Air.

There are duty free shops, food and beverage outlets, book stores and more to keep you entertained before you embark.  A number of lounges are available to passengers with membership of airline clubs.  Travelex counters and car rental offices are situated in arrivals.

A new airport is under construction in Muscat and is scheduled to open in 2014, which will handle up to 12 million passengers annually.

E-ticketing is gaining popularity with a few airlines practicing it already. E-gate cards are also in use in conjunction with the new chipped resident’s card. A further time-saving service offered by the airport is the Meet and Greet Service which will take care of your visa formalities and whisk you through immigration via a separate (and much quicker) queue.

Salalah Airport is smaller and handles a small number of international flights.  Its busiest route is Muscat - Salalah during the khareef season, which reduces the traveller’s journey from a 10 hour drive to a 90 minute flight.  The flight operates 3 times daily.  Khasab airport operates flights to and from Muscat four times a week.

Additional airports under construction in Oman are Duqm, Sohar, Ras Al Hadd and Adam.

Travellers to Muscat can check out airfares and flight schedules and even book flight tickets via My Guide Oman.  Visit the booking page for more information.
